We are Westerly Winds!
Our Story
Our band was formed in September 2013 as a teaching band and comprised of players ranging from complete beginners with no musical education, to players returning to their instrument after several years break. What we all had in common was a desire to learn and to make music together. The band's enthusiasm to perform in public has been a driving force behind our improvement. We had a change of Musical Director last September and our new MD, Andy Loveridge has been working us very hard and we are now playing at approximately Grade 5 level.
Currently our band comprises of 5 Flutes, 1 Oboe, 9 Clarinets, 4 Alto saxes, 3 Tenor saxes and 2 Baritone Saxes, 1 French Horn, 1 Mellophone, 2 Euphoniums, 5 Trumpets, 1 Bassoon, a Bass Guitar and Drums.
What we do
We meet every Wednesday evening in the YouFoundation, Page Road, Staple Hill, Bristol, BS16 4NE at 7.30, under the baton of Musical Director, ANDY LOVERIDGE.
We play a variety of music that suits our abilities and taste, such as:- 'Les Miserables', 'Sabre Dance', 'Black Magic Woman', 'All About That Bass', 'Peter Gunn' and many more (see 'Our Music' for our current repertoire.)
We are run by a committee of members, who actively seek out local events and venues at which the band can play and hence share our music with the wider community. We have played at Keynsham Music Festival, Millennium Square, Royal Victoria Park (Bath) and The Penny Brohn Cancer Centre in Pill.
If you'd like to book us for an event, please go to our 'enquiries' page.
