We are Westerly Winds Concert Band
Our Story
Our concert band was formed as a teaching band in September 2013 and comprised players ranging from complete beginners with no musical education, to players returning to their instrument after several years' break. What we all had in common was a desire to learn and to make music together. The band's enthusiasm to perform in public has been a driving force behind our improvement. In April 2023, we welcomed our new Musical Director, Roger Sansom, whose energy and encouragement is helping us to continue to grow and progress.
Currently our band comprises: flutes; oboe; clarinets; alto, tenor and baritone saxes; French horn; mellophone; euphoniums; trumpets and cornets; bassoon, bass guitar; drums and percussion.
We are always interested in hearing from potential new players. Please go to our enquiries page for further information.
What we do
We meet every Wednesday evening in the YouFoundation, Page Road, Staple Hill, Bristol, BS16 4NE at 7.30, under the directorship of our MD, Roger Sansom.
We play a wide variety of music that caters for a range of occasions, from classical favourites such as: Pachelbel's Canon and Orpheus Overture to pop/rock hits such as: Uptown Funk and Bohemian Rhapsody. Whether it's hits from stage and screen to lively jazz and swing numbers, our musical repertoire appeals to all ages and tastes. You can click here for a more detailed list of music we play.
We are run by a committee of members, who actively seek out exciting events and venues at which the band can play and share our music with the wider community. We have played at a range of venues and events including: Keynsham Music Festival, The Redgrave Theatre, Royal Victoria Park and Parade Gardens in Bath, the Southbank Club, the Folk House and Kings Weston House.
If you'd like to book us for an event, please go to our enquiries page.
The best way to keep up-to-date with all we're doing is to check out and like our Facebook page. You can also head over to our upcoming gigs page for news about what we've got planned in the near future.
Thank you!
